Coronavirus — February 5th, 2020 Facts

▶️ As of Wednesday night, China says a total of 28,248 cases have been confirmed and 563 people have died in the country.

▶️ Health officials in Wisconsin confirmed its first case of coronavirus Wednesday, raising the total number of cases in the U.S. to 12.

▶️ The virus has been confirmed in 191 cases in 24 countries outside China.

▶️ Chinese scientists are reporting preliminary success with a new approach for treating patients with the coronavirus: an antiviral drug used for treating influenza and an anti-H.I.V. drug. China has applied for a new patent on an experimental Gilead Sciences Inc. drug that its scientists believe might fight the coronavirus.

▶️ Four of the 167 Americans evacuated from Wuhan, China, to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in Southern California are being tested for the coronavirus, the CDC said Wednesday night. The four people tested had either a fever or a cough.

▶️ Two groups of Americans being evacuated from the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak will be quarantined in Nebraska and Texas, U.S. health officials said Wednesday.

▶️ U.S. health authorities are preparing for several more plane-loads of evacuees from Wuhan.
